Here is the synopsis of the script.
TEXAS, 1884: On the night of a violent storm, an ancient warrior named Victorio is released from his tomb at the presidio in Goliad. Victorio steals an undertaker’s black coach, and rides off on a mission of mayhem. Later on, two travelers, Chadwick and Phelps, come upon a settlement of railroad workers in which all the townspeople have been burned alive in a huge bonfire.
Texas Ranger Jim Hamilton is informed of the massacre, as well as the $20,000 reward for the killer’s capture. In order to make a better life for himself and his future bride, Luvenia, he resigns his post to go after the reward. Hamilton, riding with his hand Miguel, begins his pursuit in Langtry, a town presided over by the famous Judge Roy Bean. Some interesting characters have collected in Langtry. There is the actor Tyrone Boudreaux, whom Bean almost hangs for insulting Lillie Langtry. There is the feisty Irishman Murphy, mistakenly accused of murdering Chinese railroad workers. There is Carmelita Josef, accompanied by her mother Marie who is convinced that Carmelita will be the Empress of Mexico. And there are Chadwick and Phelps. When the bounty is raised to $100,000 in gold, Marie is lured away from the camp by Victorio and burned alive. Now with higher stakes, Hamilton, Miguel and five others follow the railroad westward in pursuit of Victorio.
The ride across West Texas is torturous. Chadwick and Phelps are the first ones that Victorio usurps and brings into his fold. These two help Victorio overcome another town during a barn dance, and here we learn how Victorio uses ancient herbal lore to beguile his victims. Murphy is the next pursuer to fall into the demon’s clutches, then Carmelita and Tyrone. Hamilton and Miguel now realize that the tables have turned, and that the other bounty hunters are actually in pursuit of them. Hamilton contrives an ambush and shootout with the five gunslingers — but apparently bullets cannot kill them. The Ranger and his companion manage to escape into the sanctuary of an old Spanish chapel.
Holed up in this church, Hamilton must think fast. Murphy sneaks in through the bell tower and is temporarily disabled after his face is blown off. Hamilton and Miguel find iron pickets outside and decide to hunt down the others. One by one the five minions are killed with a stake through the heart, until it comes down at last to the leader. Victorio tricks Hamilton into killing his own Luvenia, who has been held captive inside a coffin in the black coach. Hamilton carries Luvenia back to the chapel and lays her at the feet of the crucifix.
The figure on the crucifix turns out to be Victorio, who descends the cross and confronts Hamilton for their last encounter.
